The Build

Baja Designs LP4 lights, GFC v2 Pro, Next Venture skids, SDHQ sliders, 74Weld full rear links and watts link package, 74Weld front upper control arms

This vehicle was built with adventure in mind. It is not a hardcore rock crawler, it is not a dedicated go fast rig, it is an all around go anywhere do anything build. The Ranger Raptor is the swiss army knife of off roading. It is extremely capable and planted at high speed. The 3.0L motor with the Ford Performance tune absolutely rips though the fast sections. The watts link rear suspension keeps the vehicle flat and planted though turns, and the Fox Live Valve shocks are surprisingly good right out of the box.

We intentionally kept this build as OEM plus as possible keeping the factory front and rear bumpers. 37's do require trimming of the front fender flares and some factory sheet metal. No trimming was done on the rear. As this build progressed and we wheeled harder and harder trails it became very clear that skids and sliders were absolutely necessary. It started out with Foutz Motorsports aluminum skids which are better than stock, but probably not enough for something like the Rubicon. With that trail in our sights we upgraded the skids to the Nextventure Motorsports full skid system which is a PITA to install and well worth the effort. There is no way the underside of this vehicle would have made it though the Rubicon without them.

The Rock sliders on this vehicle are early prototypes from SDHQ. These units were put through the ringer on Rubicon and have proven to be a great addition. If they are not released yet, I'm sure they will be soon. A good set of sliders is a requirement for any off road vehicle in our opinion.

One of the reasons we love midsize trucks is their versatility and utility. This is the reason we love GFC Campers and put them on almost all our builds. They are light enough to not hinder the suspension and packed with comfort. Simple, clean, and all about utility. Its a fine line between comfort and weight, and GFC is the best pick for for something that is both functional for off road use, and comfy when you get to camp.

We did upgrade the front brake package to a Powerbrake 6 piston setup which was a much needed upgrade given how quick and how hard you can push this truck. The Ranger Raptor is the one platform we really try to get our customers to upgrade brakes on and the Powerbrake 6 pistons are our go to. The issue we have on the Ranger Raptor platform is that we have to slightly grind the factory caliper adapter brackets to clear our portal box. This is not something we like to do and so we really do try to talk our customers into the Powerbrake upgrade kit.

On most vehicles we advise our customers to run around a +35 wheel. Since the Ranger Raptor came with a +55 from the factory this again is the one platform we really stress that wheel selection is super important. For this reason we really recommend our beadlock wheels because they are a +50 offset and running less than a +50, the vehicle start to get really wide.
